Our principals, David McRae and John Sommers, obtained their property valuation qualifications in 1974 and 1980, and licensed real estate agent qualifications in 1984 and 1999, respectively. They form the benchmark for our disciplined approach and strategies, utilised to carry out our role as Buyers' Advocates, in a thorough and professional manner.

We will form a view as to whether a property is “right for you” and convey that message in a clear and concise way. We often respectfully talk a client out of pursuing a property when an objective and unemotional assessment (by us) reveals its just not the right fit.

Meet the team
Our principals have a combined valuation career of over 60 years in the Melbourne area and have been acting as buyers advocates for clients since the early 1980's.
David is a qualified Valuer (1974) and Licenced Real Estate Agent (1984).
Much of his career has been devoted to the acquisition side of real estate. Since 1965, David has been involved at a senior level with two public development companies and acted as a consultant to many of Melbourne's prominent developers and investors.
His broad experience has also been gained through project marketing, both residential and commercial property.
His industry network, which has developed since 1965, is invaluable to what we do today.
David has valued most types of property, advised Clients of most major banks and Merchant Banks, together with a wealth of our own Clients, and has been expert witness in many court cases.
This experience sets us aside from our competitors and forms a solid base of credibility for what we do and how we do it.
And this experience provides us with the training and discipline to carry out our business to the highest of standards.
John is a qualified Valuer (1980) and Licensed Real Estate Agent (1999).
His career has revolved around the valuation, sale and purchase of both residential and commercial property. He has worked for a major CBD-based real estate agency and a number of both valuation and agency firms in Melbourne's inner suburbs since the late 1970s. He has also run his own Buyers' Advocate firm prior to joining McRae Property in 2007.
John has valued a wide variety of real estate, purchased many hundreds of properties for his clients and established relationships with individuals at almost every major Melbourne real estate agency.
Those relationships are crucial in finding properties before they 'hit the market' and also in obtaining the background information which is so important in making the right decisions, particularly in the negotiation process.
This experience and knowledge enables us to discharge our responsibilities to our clients in a way that has resulted in approximately 95% of our new business coming from referrals.
Our fees are generally in line with Industry standards, and are set and agreed on with each client, depending on their budget.
We do not charge you a signing on fee.
No fee is payable until you buy a property.
The fee becomes due two weeks from the date of sale.
